Top 5 VFD Parameter Changes: What you Need to Set and Why

As with all electronics, VFDs have advanced in capability and function over their long history, providing more system control to help eliminate external devices and integrate with programmable logic controllers (PLCs). In most cases, the VFD default settings will be sufficient for your application. If you need to adjust parameter settings, typically no more than a dozen settings are adjusted for a particular application.

This paper details a list of the top five parameter settings programmed by VFD installers to help you better understand what you are setting and why.

  • Learn about the three different control method classifications for VFDs.
  • Review the importance of configuring the VFD's electronic thermal overload for the motor being operated
  • Discover how setting acceleration and deceleration times can be used to extend the life of your motor.
  • Learn the importance of setting speed/run commands and fault reset for your VFD
